AfterThe original batts in this Katy home had slumped away from the eaves, leaving the perimeter of the attic nearly bare. We pulled the old material and blew GreenFiber cellulose to R-38, paying close attention to the soffit vents so airflow stayed intact. The temperature difference between the hallway and the bedrooms evened out within a week.

The builder had left this Pearland attic at R-11, which is legal but not comfortable in a Houston summer. We blew CertainTeed fiberglass to R-30 and sealed the top plates around the interior walls. A roof leak in this Sugar Land home had soaked a section of the attic floor insulation and started growing mold on the decking.
